My computer shows black screen very frequently??

There are many symptoms of this issue as in you may notice the following things

1)) Note is not booting up at all.

2)) Light on the keyboard, power cable light, wireless light etc are glowing but nothing on the computer screen, its completely black.

3)) The arrow "cursor" is there on the black screen & nothing else.

Whenver we face this kind of issue, suppose we are facing the issue when there is no light/LED glowing on the computer, check the power cables & make sure that there is no problem with the connections.

The step is to go for POWER DRAIN

The second step which should be followed to get rid off this issue is to go for HDD & RAM RESEAT.

Windows XP sets up a printer directly connected to your computer for use on your system. After you add a printer, Windows adds a printer icon for the printer to your Printers folder. Windows then uses the printer software(the driver) to communicate with the printer. The printer icon lets you manage, the printer settings and view, as well as manage, the activities of the printer (the print queue).

Step 1)) Click on "Start"

Step 2)) Go to "Control Panel"

Step 3)) Click on "Printers & faxes" option

Step 4)) Click on "Add Printers" from the left side navigator of the window.

Step 5)) A new Wizard appears, from the Wizard Click on "Next"

Step 6)) Select "Local Printer"

Step 7)) Click on "Next"

Step 8)) Select make in Manufacturers: list box.

Step 9)) Select Pointer model in Printers: list box.

Step 10)) Click "Next" to access the driver on the hard disk

Step 11)) Click "Have Disk" to get the disk where the driver is available.

Step 12)) Follow the instructions given on the screen

Now if it is prompted to keep existing driver

Go for the following :

Step 1)) Select keep existing drive (recommended)

Step 2)) Select Replace existing driver

Step 3)) Click Next

Step 4)) Select port for printer in Available ports: list box

Now configuring Selected Port

Step 1)) Click Configure port

Step 2)) Select options provided

Step 3)) Click Ok

Step 4)) Click Next

Step 5)) Type or edit name in Printers name

Step 6)) Select yes to set a printer as default.

Step 7)) Select No

Step 8)) Click Next

Unable to connect internet

Many times we face this issue that we are unable to connect Internet. Whenever we face this issue we should make sure that all the hardware connections are done correctly(for wired connection). Make sure that all the wires are properly & correctly connected. there is no loose connection. And the wires are in good condition. Then try connecting with another other modem or other computer.

If you get the clue that all other connections are Ok and something is bad with computer then follow the followings..

Sometimes we are unable to connect to internet because the user account has gone bad or corrupt.

Let us create a new user account

Step 1)) Click on "Start"

Step 2)) Go to "Control Panel"

Step 3)) Click on "User account"

Step 4)) Click onManage another account

Step 5)) Click onContinue

Step 6)) Click onCreate a new account

Step 7)) Click onPut the name, password if required

Step 8)) Click onselect the radio button (Administrator account)

Step 9)) Click onCreate account

New account is created, let us create new connection for the new account

Step 1)) Click on Start

Step 2)) Click on Control panel

Step 3)) Click on Network & Sharing center

Step 4)) Click on Set up a connection on network

Step 5)) Click on Set up a dial up connection/or as per your wish

My email account is not accepting my valid password

Many times we face this issue. And may times we even choose to create a new password or even new account. But this problem is not so serious. Actually this kind of issue exists when we check the option to remember the password automatically in computer, and after some days due to some reasons we change the password of the same account. Actually the former password is being saved by the computer hence when we change it & enter it, it is not accepted by the computer.

There we can simply get rid of this issue by deleting the history or/and the password of the browser.

We can simply do it by:-

Step 1)) Click on "Start"

Step 2)) Go to "Control Panel"

Step 3)) Click on "Internet Options"

Step 4)) From the window pop up click on "Clear History"

**NOTE :- In case of Windows Vista Click on "Delete Password".

Step 5)) Click on "Apply" & then "Ok"

And your problem has been solved...

How to remove some of the additional programs??

If sometimes you face this problem that you are unable to play some of the videos or some of the flash games or flash music in your computer, then do not worry because this is not a big issue. It can easily be solved without any problem. We are simply required to download a software on your computer, run it/install it. That's all. And the issue is resolved.

So for downloading you may search for the flash player software in any search engine. And download it for free.(Most of them are free).

Adobe flash player is the most common & re-known one.

My computer Boots up quickly but takes time to Start?

Many of us faced this problem that whenever we turn our computer on, it turns on quickly but takes time to get ready & let us work. Why does this happen?? Have you ever noticed the extreme bottom right corner of the desktop.

You will find so many small icons over there. As in Network Connection, Volume Button, Anti-virus & so on. These are called as the "Start Ups". These are the primary functions which takes place very first after the computer boots up. These are those functions which takes place very primarily. And if the number of functions increases here then it causes the computer to run slow. this area is called the notification area also. And please take care that there remain very few items here to prevent your computer to slow down.

Now let us follow the steps to remove the excess items from here.

Step 1)). Click on Start

Step 2)). Go to "RUN"

Step 3)). In the box type "msconfig"

Step 4)). A new window called "System Configuration Utility" will be opened.

Step 5)). Click on the tab "Start Up"[the last one]

Step 6)). Now see all those items which are checked in the window & verify which one is important & require to be here.

Step 7)). All those items you find not so important uncheck them.

**NOTE :- Items like Network connection, antivirus, volume buttons are important & rest all are not so important for start up. Many of us have yahoo messenger or google talk etc checked, they are not at all required in the start ups & hence they are required to be unchecked in this page.

Step 8)). Click "APPLY" then "OK"

And now this problem of ours has been sorted...

How to add quick launch buttons??

Quick Launch are just a folder on your computer, of which the content can be made visible as part of the bar at the (normally) bottom part of your computer screen. A folder you can add your own short cuts, files, and folders to.

Quick launch lets us to launch some of the programs very easily by just clicking one single button. For example web-browser when we add quick launch buttons on our desktop the web-browser button is automatically added so that we can click on the option just once & the browser is on our desktop.

We will learn how to add quick launch buttons to the desktop or if you already have them how to remove them if you do not want them...

Step 1)). Right click on the task bar.

Step 2)). Go to "Toolbars".

Step 3)). From the new drop down menu go to "Quick Launch" & check it.

Step 4)). Quick launch buttons are launched.

If you want to remove the Quick launch button then uncheck the "Quick launch" from tool bars again.

The other way of adding/removing Quick launch buttons is

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Task Bar and Start Menu

The above window wiil appear. Check the the square beside "Show Quick Launch"

Click on Apply then OK.

Configure Wi-Fi systems

Filter MAC addresses

To use MAC-address filtering, you'll need to enable the feature in your router's configuration routine. Look for a filtering button or a menu option.

Then enter the MAC addresses you recorded in step 1 for your Wi-Fi adapters. Apply the changes and exit the router's configuration utility.

For an extra layer of security, enable MAC-address filtering.

Most 802.11g routers come configured to work with both 802.11g and 802.11b clients. If you've purchased 802.11g devices for all your wireless systems, choose an 802.11g-only mode to boost performance.

Enable encryption

Now enable encryption. If your router and all of your wireless adapters support it, use Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption with a preshared key. This provides more than adequate security for most home users. If your hardware doesn't support WPA, enable Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption.

Most routers let you create WEP or WPA keys by entering a passphrase. You'll likely need to enter the passphrase twice for verification. Apply the changes without exiting.

Set the SSID

Set the password

Configure the wireless systems

If still you are unable to connect to wireless internet, you may need to take another step or two.

On a Windows XP system, try disabling the Windows wireless-configuration feature to establish a connection.

This step is also necessary if you want to use the bundled utilities.

To disable this feature,

Click the XP Networking icon (it looks like two computer monitors) in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen.

Click the Advanced button from the Wireless Network Connection dialog, and select the Wireless Networks tab.

Uncheck "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" and click OK to accept the change. Now reboot your system to bring the connection to life. If your wireless systems won't connect to the Internet, try disabling Windows XP's wireless connection utility.

**NOTE :-For operating system versions other than Windows XP, a simple reboot may be all it takes to get your Wi-Fi adapter running correctly after driver installation. Move on to the next steps even if you still can't connect after rebooting. They should solve the problem.

Install the wireless adapters

Install the Wi-Fi adapter in each system that will connect wirelessly to the router.

If you're using the D-Link PC Card and PCI adapters, install the software from the CD before installing the hardware, then shut down your system, install the adapter, and reboot.

After Windows boots, the Found New Hardware wizard should appear and initiate the driver installation.

Select "Install the software automatically" and click Next.

If you see a message warning that the driver has not passed Windows logo testing, click Continue Anyway.

Configure the router

Using the PC connected to the router, launch your browser.

In the URL address field, enter the router-configuration IP address provided in the documentation--192.168.0.1 for the D-Link DI-624.

Next, enter the information you collected in step 1 as instructed in your router's installation guide.

Leave other settings such as encryption and SSID at their defaults for now, exit your router's configuration routine, and check your Internet connection.

**NOTE If you still can't access any Web sites, check your router's documentation for troubleshooting advice and call the manufacturer for technical support, if necessary.

Install the wireless router

Before you install the router, power down your PC.

Then disconnect the Ethernet cable from your PC and connect it to your router's WAN port so that the Ethernet cable connects the modem to the router.

Now, the string a second Ethernet cable between your PC's Ethernet port and one of the router's Ethernet ports.

Connect your modem to the WAN port on the router and your PC to an open Ethernet port on the router.

Turn on the modem and wait until it connects. Plug in and power on the router and turn on your PC.

Go to Start> Control Panel> Double click on Network Connection Icon> Right Click on icon for your PC's Ethernet adapter.

Now choose Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties.

If "Use the following IP address" is highlighted, your Internet access uses a static IP address.

Jot down the IP address, the subnet mask, and the default gateway.

Then click "Obtain an IP address automatically."

Click OK to apply your changes and OK again to close the dialog.

You'll find your Ethernet adapter's IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway within its Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties.

*NOTE:- If you have a DSL connection, you'll probably need the username and the password your system requires to connect to your ISP. If you don't know the values, try looking within the software your ISP provided. You may need to uninstall the PPPoE connection software that your ISP provided. To find out, check your router's documentation.

Now is also a good time to collect the MAC addresses of any wireless-network adapters you'll be installing. The MAC address should be printed on the Wi-Fi PC Card or the PCI adapter.

You may be able to find ISP-specific router-configuration instructions within the tech-support pages of your ISP's Web site or your router manufacturer's site, especially if you use DSL.

RAM & HDD RE-SEAT

RAM RE-SEAT means taking out RAM carefully out of its compartment & then placing it back.

HDD RE-SEAT means taking out the HDD carefully out of its compartment & then placing it back..

Unscrew all the screws of the compartment of RAM, then you would notice there would be 2 green board with black chips on it. On the either sides of the green board there would be 2 clips.

Pull those clips on either side. The green board will pop up.. Take it out wipe it of with a dry piece of cloth & put it back. While putting back the RAM back into its slot please make sure that the no. of pins of the green board should match with the no. of connectors of the slot....

Similarly you can easily take out HDD out of its compartment. The only difference is that there is no clips here for the HDD but there will be a ribbon kind of structure. Pull that ribbon gently & it will come out. Take it out wipe it of with a dry piece of cloth & put it back. While putting back the HDD back into its slot please make sure that the no. of pins of the green board should match with the no. of connectors of the slot....

Its easily cam be done but if you have any kind of doubt in your mind please do call the customer care executive.....

How to do power drain??

For doing power drain:-

Turn off the computer(laptop) properly by pressing the power button.

Disconnect the AC adapter/charger of the notebook from it.

Take out the battery out of the battery compartment.

Now press & hold the power button for about 30-40 secs..

POWER DRAIN is done now try to power on the Notebook & check whether the issue still exists or not..

When we work on our computer electricity flows through it, and sometimes some of the electricity is stored in it which we call static electricity or static current...

So when we disconnect all the power supply from the notebook & press & hold the power button for so long the static current is drained off...

Accessing multiple email accounts with gmail accounts is very easy.. We are just required to follow some of the very easy few steps:--

Let us check them out.

Step 1). Login to your gmail account..

Step 2). Click on "Settings" tab from your Gmail Account Window.

Step 3). From the window of Settings, go to "Lab" tab

Step 4). Scroll Down the page. We have lots of options there.. Go to "Mutiple Inboxes" & check the Radio button beside "Enable"

Once you do that you will see an additional box next to your inbox pane containing search results for “is:starred” and “is:drafts”..

If you have starred or draft emails, you’ll see them there. If you don’t want to have a pane dedicated to drafts or starred emails you can remove those panes by going to the "multiple inboxes" settings.

Step 5). Now Go to the "Settings" again.

Step 6). Now Click on "Account" tab.

Step 7). From the "Account" window go to "Get mail from other account"

Step 8). Enter your "Email Address", "Password" & all relevant answers asked there..

During this setup process you’ll be able to apply a label to the new incoming mail and if preferred, archive it as well (both recommended). You can also take advantage of the “custom from” feature which allows you to send emails from those addresses through Gmail.

You have succesfully added your external email accounts..

Step 9). Now Go to "Settings", then Go to "Multiple Inboxes" tab..

If you haven’t touched these settings yet, by default you’ll see that pane 0 is occupied by “is:starred” and Pane 1 by “is:drafts” (I opted to remove those on my account). Simply enter the new email address or any other search criteria you might want displayed beside your Gmail inbox. Also note the additional settings, which provide the ability to increase or decrease the number of messages that will be displayed in the extra inbox panes as well as their position.

For adding additional email accounts simply repeat steps 2 and 3 to add more inboxes or labels as well as anything searchable that you want displayed in its own pane. And this is just one of the many advanced features found in the Gmail Labs tab which can take your webmail experience to the next level. Enjoy.

This issue occurs with "Windows Vista users".

If any kind of issue occurs with the sidebar it can easily be sorted out by following the given simple steps.:-

Step 1). Click on "Start"
Step 2). Go to "Control Panel"
Step 3). From the new window pop up "Windows Side bar."

And change the settings as per your wish.

If you want to add any more gadgets to your side bar you may do it by clicking on the "+" sign in the sidebar.

If the "Windows XP" users want to add side bar on their desktop, they may do it by downloading "Google Desktop" & installing it on their desktop....

I am not able to play a DVD Movie / Blue Ray DVD..

When you are following this kind of issue first of all you should:-

1). Sort out which kind of issue is it

(i). Are you not getting audio?

(ii). Are you not getting video?

(iii). DVD is not recognized by your computer.

(iv). Audio/ Video disturbance

Or anything else.

Then try this steps to get down the root of issue.

1). Try to play different DVD.
2). Try to play this DVD in another Player or computer.

Now do you think that the issue is with the computer & not anything else. Then follow the following steps.

Step 1). Go to "Device manager"
Step 2). Click on the “+” sign beside “DVD/CD ROM Driver”
Step 3). An option/a list of drivers appears under the “DVD/CD ROM Driver” option. Right Click on the option
Step 4). From the drop down menu, click on uninstall… & uninstall the driver.
Step 5). Restart the computer.

After restarting the computer, the driver is automatically re-installed.

Now check whether you are able to play DVD or not. If not follow the following steps.

For Windows Vista….

Step 1). Click on “Start”
Step 2). Go to “All programs” then "Accesories"
Step 3). Click on "System Tools" then “system recovery”
Step 4). From the new window pop up go to "APPLICATION & DEVICE MANAGER"
Step 5). From the next blue screen Go to "Software program Reinstallation"
Step 6). Click on “Install”
Step 7). Restart computer

If still the issue exists try system restore.

This should resolve your issue & if not you should call up your customer care executive as the given steps (reseat of the disc drive, recovery, HDD reseat) should be carried away under the care of customer care executive or technicians...

My touchpad/mouse not working

We many times come across the issues like
(i). The cursor freezes
(ii). The cursor is dropped whenever I click somewhere.
(iii). The arrow/cursor becomes invisible & so on.
(iv). My cursor dis-appears frequently.

This type of issue occurs when the software of mouse/touchpad has gone bad.

If it is a mouse you are using then please check its connection, whether the wires are properly connected. Make sure the connections are proper (no loose connection) & clean. If there is dust or something clean it properly with dry piece of cloth. Unplug the cord of mouse, clean the port & plug it again.

Now check the functionality once again.
If the issue still exists.
We can follow some of the steps to troubleshoot this issue.
Lets check them out...

Step 1). Go to "Device Manager"
Step 2). From the new window pop up, Click on the “+” sign beside “mice & other pointing device”
Step 3). A new software option arises under the “mice & other pointing device”. Right Click on that option.
Step 4). From the drop down menu go to “uninstall” to uninstall the software.
Step 5). “Restart” the computer.

Once you restart the computer the software is automatically reinstalled.

Now check the functionality of the your mouse or touch pad……………

If still its not working try other mouse with your computer. If the new mouse also does not work you can go for system recovery.

If the other mouse works fine, it means your mouse(older one) has gone bad, repair/replace it.

For the touchpads we can follow "HDD RESEAT" in which but I would suggest you to not to do it alone try it with/infront of your technicians because it could be dangerous if anything goes wrong.

[NOTE ;- HDD RESEAT means taking out the HDD from its slot & placing it back after dusting it].

If even after "HDD RESEAT" your mouse doesnot functions well go for "system recovery/format". If even after recovery the issue exists. Call up your dealer or manyfacturer.

I connected my computer to the projector but there is nothing on the projector..

This issue occurs when we are presenting our presentation in our office or seminar or conference. We tried connecting our laptop to the projector but not getting anything on the projector screen, or the brightness setting is too bad that nothing is clearly visible.

To avoid this kind of situation we should take care of some points as in:-

(1). If we are doing the connections for the first time, we should go through the manual of the laptop as well as of the projector thoroughly.

(2). Take care the kind of Ethernet (wire) you are using. It should match the kind actually required.

(3). The connections should be done properly (there should not be any loose connection).

(4). You should try to do the connections before the final day to make sure you can do the connections without any difficulty.

(5). Remember the functions of keys.

(6). If the connections are proper but still it is not functioning well please connect some other computer & check whether it works well with other one or not.

Reading manual will sort out most of your problem… Hence go through the manual properly.

For most of the HP Laptops try this:----

If the video is there on the laptop screen but you are not getting picture on the projector screen then follow this:-

Fn key + F4 (to see content on the projector)
Fn key + F4 (to see the content on projector as well as on the laptop screen)

If the picture is not clear/requires brightness adjustment follow this:-

To lower the brightness Press Fn key + F7

To increase the brightness Press Fn key + F8.

I cannot open few of the websites.

May be the pages are being blocked.

Many times we face a problem that we are unable to open some of the websites in our browser, this issue occurs because may be the Hard Disc Drive space is blocked. The space is blocked because the junk files are stored there. Therefore we are required to make space in HDD by deleting the junk or the unnecessary files.

Or there is one more possibility i.e. due to security reasons the page has been blocked by your browser settings. We can get rid of this too.

Let us first delete the junk files from the hard disc drive:

• Step 1 – Go to “START”

• Step 2– Click on “RUN”.

• Step 3 – Type “%temp%” in the search box.

A new window is opened, select all the items present there, Press “Shift+Delete” to delete the items permanently.

• Step 4- Repeat the steps 1 to 3, instead of writing “%temp%” write “prefetch” in the “RUN” & delete all the items permanently.

Now let us undo the security reasons so that we do not face this issue anymore.

• Step 1 –Go to “start”

• Step 2 –Click on control panel (If you are unable to go to control panel go to “Start”, “settings” & then to “control panel”).

• Step 3 –Go to “Internet options”. A new small window pop up (Internet Properties) will open.

• Step 4 –Go to “security” tab just beside the “general” tab at the top.

• Go to “Restricted Sites” & check does the name of the site you are trying to open is there, if it is there you may remove it from there & now u may open the particular page which was not opening previously.

And hence this the issue gets resolved.

If still the pages are not opening uninstall & re-install the web browser or try to open with another browser.............

There is no audio from my computer.

This is one of the very frequently occuring issue. In this case there comes no sound from the computer, when you play music or audio or CD or any video you are unable to hear any music. Most of the time it is not an serious issue. Sometimes it happens that the speaker has gone bad or may be the volume has bee muted automatically or there may some software issue.

The Primary steps to be followed are
1). We should check whether the speakers put on properly or not.
2). Check whether the connections (wires) are proper.

3). The power indicator lights are on or not.
4). You click on the play button
5). Try playing another music or video.
6). If possible try to play the CD or video in some other player to check if the sound is audible or not.
7). Please check the sound system(speakers) by connecting it with another PC or player. Make sure the speaker is fine before troubleshooting.

After checking all these things if the issue still exists with computer & you think that something is wrong with the computer settings or computer audio. please follow the following steps:--

Step 1). At the extreme bottom of right hand side the computer screen (extreme right of the task bar). There would be a sign of a speaker(for volume). Click on it & check the level of sound. Drag it to the extreme top & if the check box beside "Mute" is checked.
Uncheck it. If it is Ok & nothing wrong with the settings of the volume proceed with the further steps. Or play music to check the audio.

Step 2). Click on "Start"
Step 3). Go to "Control Panel"
Step 4). Go to "Real HD Sound Effect Manager/sound Manager/Audio manager"
Step 5). Properly check everything. (Nothing should be mute).

If everything is Ok & the issue still exists. Follow the following steps:-

Step 1). Go to "Device manager"
Step 2). From the device manager, click on the "+" beside the "sound, video & game controller"

Step 3). A list of softwares appears. Uninstall each of them.(to uninstall: Right click on the name of the software & uninstall from the dropdown menu)
Step 4). After uninstalling all the softwares "Restart" the computer.
Step 5). After Restarting the computer all the softwares gets re-installed automatically.

Now try to play some audio & check whether it is working or not.
Most of the time it works......

If still it is not working. Let us go for "system restore". We shall restore your computer on the date when it was working fine.

Step 1). Click on "Start"
Step 2). Go to "All Programs"
Step 3). Go to "Accessories"
Step 4). Go to "System Tools"
Step 5). Go to "System Restore"

Step 6). Click on "Restore my computer" & then "Next"
Step 7). Select any date from the given calender on which you think the computer was working fine/you were getting sound from your computer & then "Next" & follow the instructions properly given by the computer.

Step 8). Restart the computer.
Step 9). Your PC is restored.

Now check whether you are getting sound from your computer or not.

If still not then to get rid of this issue you have to go for "System recovery".

After recovery if the issue exists you should contact your dealer or manufacturer because it might be a motherboard issue.

How to create new user account??

New user account can be created without much a do.. Its again a very simple task to be performed.

Step 1). Click on "Start"
Step 2). Go to "Control Panel"
Step 3). From the new window, go to "User accounts"

[*Note:- If you can not see the user account option on the window, then from left hand side of the window click on "Classics view"]

Step 4). Now Click on "Create new account".
Step 5). Put in the name for your account
Step 6). Now choose which kind of account you wish to create {administrator kind or limited kind}. If you wish the account user to manage all the functions & facilities of the computer click on "Administrator" otherwise choose limited.

Step 7). Click on "Create account" & your account is created.

Now after the account has been created you can customize your account by changing its picture, creating a password for your account, change the name of the account & many more........ you can even delete the account if you wish to.

How to create new folders??

Creating new folder is one of the easiest task in computers..

We just have to follow some of the very simple 2-3 steps to create a new folder.

Lets see:-

Step 1). "Right click" on the desktop/any local disk/folder.
Step 2). From the drop down menu go to "New".

And this way the new folder is created.

The name of the new folder you created is "New folder" or "New folder 1,2,2....etc"

I wanna permanently delete stuffs without sending them to recycle bin

Deleting the contents of Recycle bin is very important because the contents of recycle bin are useless & occupies space un-necessarily & makes the computer slow. Either you should "Empty the recycle bin" regularly or change the setting to remove contents without sending them to recycle bin. Or you may simply delete the matters or contents permanently.

We shall now discuss the steps one by one..

Let us first of all learn how to delete stuffs permanently....

Step 1). Select the matter you want to delete.

Step 2). Press "Shift + Delete" both at the same time.

Step 3). Click "Ok" on the confirmation message box.

Aren't the steps very easy?

Now lets follow the steps for changing the settings of recycle bin to directly delete the deleted items without moving them to recycle bin.

Step 1). Right Click on "Recycle Bin".

Step 2). Go to "Properties" from the drop down menu.

Step 3). Click on the "Global" tab

Step 4). From the "Global tab" Check the square box beside "Do not move files to Recycle Bin".

Step 5). Click on "Apply"

Step 6). Now Click on "Ok"

I lost my file. I saved it but forgot where..........

I forgot the name of file & now I am not able to find it!!!!!! How irritating!! Isn't it??

This issue mostly occurs with the beginners of computers. Many times this happens that we save files & forget where we saved it. Or sometimes we even forget the name of the file......

But as we all know every problem comes with its solution, same happens with this issue too.

There are few steps through which we may find our lost files back.

Lets check how....

Step 1) Click on "Start"

Step 2) Go to "Search"

Step 3) From the left hand side of the new window, Select the type of file you want to search (as in you want to search for picture, music, document a complete folder or what)

Step 4) After selecting the type of file you want to search for, from the left hand side of the new window, you may enter the name of the file (if you remember or leave it blank). you may also choose the "Location"(if you remember). It also gives you other options to make your search easier.

Completing all the fields you may click on"Search" and you would get every related files......

One of the key of my keyboard is not working...

If you come across this issue that any of the key of your key board not working properly or working weird or not working at all.

You should first of all check the functionality of respective keys in BIOS. Go to BIOS & press the keys which you think are not working & check whether they are making any beep sound or not. If yes it means it is not an mother board issue & can easily be sorted out. But if there is no sound its a mother board issue & it needs replacement or repair.

How to go to BIOS screen?

There are different keys of all different brands of computers to go to BIOS Screen as in for HP's computers press "F10", it is diiferent for Toshiba, Sony, Lenovo, Dell etc.

But it is either of the "F1 - F12" keys or for some computers it is "Delete".

[As soon as you press the power button to turn on the computer, start pressing any of these keys & keep on tapping it (as in F8 F8 F8 F8 F8 F8 F8 F8 F8) unless you are on BIOS screen(a

blue/black screen written "Welcome to Bios")].

Start tapping from F1 if it doesnot work try F2 then F3.......F12

But tap only one of these keys at a time.

Now suppose the key is not making beep sound it means you are required to contact your dealer or manufacturer..

But if it is making beep sound it means it is not an motherboard issue & you have to go through some of the troubleshooting steps:-

Let us see the troublshooting steps:-

Step 1). Right Click on "My computer"

Step 2). Go to "Properties"

Step 3). From the new Window pop up Go to "Hardware"

Step 4). Then select "device manager"

Step 5). From the device manager window Click on "Keyboard"

Step 6). Right Click on the option which is there in the keyboard option & uninstall it.

Step 7). Restart the computer.(It will automatically be re-installed after restarting the computer).

Step 8). Now check whether it is working fine or not..

My computer running very slow !!!!

Many times we encounter an issue called COMPUTER RUNNING SLOW.

Generally this problem occurs because there are many junk files present in many parts of the system, this makes computer run slow. If these files are deleted from the computer, computer runs very faster. These files are stored in various parts of the computer & there are many ways of deleting them. Some of them are:-

1. Prefetch

2. %temp%

3. Temp

4. Delete cookies

5. Delete files (both offline/online)

6. Clear history

There are few more steps which can also make computer faster like disc clean up & disc defragment

These 2 steps arrange the files in proper manner & cleans up the unnecessary files which ever are present in the Local discs of “MY COMPUTER” of the computer.

Or some times there are few of the unnecessary programs installed in the computer which makes the computer very heavy to run so after uninstalling these programs, computer runs fast.

Now let us follow the steps one by one

1. Lets us perform the “prefetch”

Follow the following steps

· Step 1 Click on “Start”

· Step 2 Go to “Run”

· Step 3 Type “prefetch” Press “Enter”

· Step 4 Select All the Items present in the window by pressing “Ctrl+A” (from the keyboard)

· Step 4 On the new window pop up there is an option at the middle of the page “delete files”

· Step 6 Click on “ok”

6. Let us perform clear history

Follow the following steps:-

· Step 1 Open Internet Explorer or any browser

· Step 2 Click on “Tools”

· Step 3 Go To “Internet Options”

· Step 5 On the window pop up Click on “Clear History”

· Step 6 Click on “ok”

*NOTE:-

(a). Other way to go to Internet Option is

Click on “start” go to “Control panel” Click on “INTERNET OPTIONS”

{If necessary click on Classics view}

(b). Incase of Windows Vista, Instead of performing delete cookies, files & history

“Delete all” can be done.

7. Let us now go for Disc Clean Up & Disc defragment

Follow the following steps:-

· Step 1 Click on “Start”

· Step 2 Go to “All Programs”

· Step 3 Click on “Accessories”

· Step 4 Go to “System Tools”

· Step 5 Click on “Disc Clean Up”

· Step 6 Choose any of the DISCS you wish to clean (Or one by one clean all)

If there are lots of files in the Discs it may take time for the cleaning up process.

Same steps are to be followed for the Disc defragment. (from system tools go for disc defragment )

8. Let us now go for Uninstalling the unnecessary programs from the computer

Follow the following steps:-

· Step 1 Go to “control panel”

· Step 2 Click on “Add or Remove Programs”

· Step 3 Select the Program you wish to uninstall or remove from your computer

· Step 4 Click on Remove beside it.

If your computer is still running slow it might be a virus issue.

Sometimes the computer takes time to Start, it is so because of the start ups we choose during the starting of the computer.

If few of the start up programs are reduced then computer may start faster.

All the steps mentioned above are very useful for the computer maintenance, therefore it is suggested to perform all of the steps at least once in a week to keep your computer up & running.

How to prevent paper jams in printer??

You working on a very important project, you need some print outs urgently. You clicked on "print" command & you received an error message "PC Loader" & noticed that the paper is jammed. At this point in time, this message probably is the worst message. Isn't it? Don`t you feel this is very annoying & time- consuming interruption.

It is an irritating fact.

Here are some of the solutions to get rid of this interruption.

1). Know your printer well then use it. Always use the manuals before handling the printer because every model of the printer is different from the other & uses different media.

2). Use the right paper tray. It should match the slot. Some of the printers or "all-in-one" printers(printers, scanner, ) may have different trays. Before handling it make sure that the tray & paper you chose is right.

3). Use the Paper of right Size & shape. The paper shape & size should match the shape & size of the tray.

4). Do not keep the bundle of papers as such. Loosen them to avoid jam. Store the papers when not in use in cool, dry place, you may use well zipped silicagell packets to store papers...

5). Do not use damaged paper, hard bound, torn or wet paper etc. Protect the papers from humidity.

6). Load the papers correctly. The papers should be adjusted properly

7). Do not over load papers. Fill less number of papers into the tray.

8). Clean the tray & the printer completely. It should not have torn papers, any foreign particles, stuck papers or anything else which may case paper jam.

10). If possible feed the papers one by one or feed only those number of papers which are required at a time.

11). When your printing work is complete & you are not going to use for a long time (at least 2-3 days), clean the printer well. It should not have any jammed ink, toner or dust etc.

12). Make sure the paper into the paper has proper alignment.

Apart from all these steps if your printer is again experiencing the paper jam issue.

Please turn off the printer.

If the stuck paper is visible remove it manually.

Clean it properly. It should have any stuck paper, torn paper, any dust particle or any foreign particle.

Now tum on the printer & try printing.

If the issue exists again, try the above suggested method again.

If still the issue exists please contact your printer manufacturer.

How can I configure my Windows Mail

Many times we come across this condition that we click on a link to email directly without opening our email account but we can not email directly using this link as we did not configured our windows mail account. The biggest advantage of configuring windows mail is that we are not required to open our email account to email again & again, we can simply click on the link. Isn't it sounds amazing.

Lets configure our windows mail account to make mailing more convenient.

Go to "Windows mail"

Click on "Tools"

Select "Account"

Select "Add an account"

Type in the "display name" (Name you want to display as in username)

Now type "Email address"

Select POP3 (for incoming) & SMTP (for outgoing) [you would get your pop3 & smtp from the ISP]

Click on "Outgoing server authentication".

NOTE:- You have to call your Internet service Provider (as in AOL, Roadrunner, BSNL Broadband etc..) for POP3 & SMTP..

My webcam is not working properly

Many times this happens that some of our hardware doesnot work properly as in webcam, mouse, keys of keyboard etc..... . & we think that may be they have gone bad... But its not always so, sometimes the connections of hardware with its software are not proper or due to daily wear & tear the connection becomes loose. So to resolve this issue we can simply uninstall & reinstall the software application & the issue may get resolved.......

Lets see how can we do that..

Whenever any of the hardware acts weird we go to "Device manager" & uninstall its software from there. Then after restarting the computer the software is automatically re-installed.

How to go to "Device manager" in "Windows XP".

Right Click on "My Computer".

Go to "Properties"

Click on "Hardware" tab

From the middle of the new window pop up. Select "Device manager"

How to go to "Device manager" in "Windows Vista".

Windows Vista is a very convenient & user- friendly Operating system

It provides an awesome facility of "SEARCH" in the "START" pearl itself.

You can simply click on "START" pearl & type "Device manager" there & te device manager window is open in front of you.

Now once we are on the "device manager" page.

Lets proceed with following steps:---

Step 1. From "Device Manager" window go to "Imaging device".

Step 2. Now Right click on "Webcam"

Step 3. Choose "Uninstall"..

Step 4. Once the software is unistalled restart the computer.

Similarly if any of the hardware is not working properly or working weird, before planning to through it away & get new one you may simply try the above steps...

Most of the times this is the solution & you are sorted....

I dont have anything on my computer screen/I deleted everything everything from my desktop.

Sometimes unknowingly we delete or change some of the settings due to which the whole of the contents of the desktop gets deleted but this is not an issue & we do not have to worry about it as it could be corrected.

Step 1. Press "Ctrl+Alt+Del"/Right click on task bar.

Step 2. From the new window pop up Go to "Application"

Step 3. Click on "New task"

Step 4. Type "explorer.exe"

Step 5. Now click on "Ok"

Now every thing is back on desktop.........

Many times it happens that there is only one computer at home/office & every one uses it. Now there arises difficulty of storing/saving our personnel data in computer. We need to hide it from other people. How can we do that? Lets see.

Step 1. Right click on the folder you want to hide.

Step 2. Click on "Propeties" from the drop down menu.

Step 3. Now in the new window pop up there is a square check box beside the option "Hidden". Check the check box

Step 4. Click "OK".

And your file now is not visible to any body.

Now sometimes due to some settings, the hidden files are dimmed but are visible.

Let us change the settings & hide the files completely.

Step 1. Click on "Start".

Step 2. Go to "Control panel".

Step 3. Click on "Folder options".

Step 4. Click on "View".

Step 5. Now Scroll down the page to half & Check the radio button against "Do not show hidden files & folders."

And the files are hidden completely.

You may also secure files from being edited by anyone else by making it a "read only file".

Step 1. Right click on the file you want to make "read only".

Step 2. Go to Properties from the dropdown menu.

Step 3. In the new window pop up, there is a check box beside "Read only" option. Check it.

Step 4. Click on "Apply" & then "Ok".

And your data is protected.

I want the folders to open with single click on it.

We are not tech-savvy persons. Hence we can not run computer as fast us the tech-savvys do.
And many times we find difficulty in doing very simple work as in opening a folder may be, because we do not have habit of clicking on the folder twice so quickly. But everything in the world has got its solution.
We can change the settings & get rid off this.

Lets check how we can do this:-

Step 1. Click on "Start"
Step 2. Go to "Control panel"
Step 3. Now click on "Folder options"
Step 4. From "general" tab Select the radio button just beside the "Single click to open an item".
Step 5. Select "Apply" & then "Ok".

Now whenever you want open any folder a single click will do the task of double click.

There is one more way. We can simply slower down the speed of the click of mouse.
Sounds good right???

Lets see how to do this:-

Step 1. Click on "Start"
Step 2. Go to "Controll Panel"
Step 3. Click on the "Mouse option"
Step 4. On the new Window pop up, from the "button" tab, drag the slider (which is in the middle of the page) to slower or faster the speed of the click of the mouse.
Step 5. Select "Apply" & then "ok".

Now you may click on the any of the folder to open it as per your wish.

I want every folder to open in new window

We opened a folder to open few files, but the folder has its subfolders & the subfolders again have some more subfolders & to navigate through the folders & subfolders we are required to click on "back" then on "forward" so many times which becomes very irritating.
To avoid this situation we can change our setting to open every folder in a new window.

Lets have a look one the steps.

Step 1. Click on "Start".
Step 2. Go to "Control panel"
Step 3. Click on the "Folder Options".
Step 4. Now From the "General" tab Select the radio button beside "Open each folder in its own window."
Step 5. Click on "Apply" then "OK".

Now when ever you will open a new folder it will be opened in a new window.

I deleted my recycle bin from the desktop.

Sometimes by mistake we delete many of the contents from our computer & unnecessarily get worried about it.
For example if the recycle bin has got deleted or any other icon from the desktop has got deleted, please do not worry & follow some very simple steps to get them back.

Let us start:-

For Windows XP

Step 1. Click on "Start"

Step 2. Click on "Control Panel"

Step 3. Click on "Display"

Step 4. Select "Customize desktop"

Step 5. Click on "Recycle bin" & it will be added to your desktop.

For Windows Vista

Step 1. Click on "Start"

Step 2. Go to "Control Panel"

Step 3. On the left side there is an option "Change Desktop Icon"

Step 4. Select "Recycle bin"

Step 5. Click on"Apply"

And this way your issue gets resolved & the smile is back on your lips.!!
